ラオスでは、2020年4月以降、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大防止のためのロックダウンにより、住民の生計や医療サービスへのアクセスに影響が出ていました。今年の5月にようやく全国的なロックダウンが解除され、その直後から、LFHCでは患者さんの入院が急増し、現在では、ひと月の患者数が3倍近くになっています。今年、入院を必要とする子供の数は、3,000人以上に上ると予想されています。
公的医療制度が整っていないラオス。毎年1万人ほどの5歳以下の子供たちが命を落としています。その原因の多くは、下痢、肺炎、感染症などの予防可能な病気や治療できる怪我によるものです。

In Laos, successive COVID related lockdowns since April 2020 have impacted the population’s ability to make a living and access healthcare services. The national lockdown finally lifted this past May. Soon after, our hospital experienced a rapid increase in patient hospitalizations. Today, the number of patients in a month has increased nearly 3 times since January. By year end, we estimate over 3,000 children will be hospitalized in 2022.
Lacking a national healthcare system, some 10 thousand children under the age of 5 die every year in Laos. Most deaths are caused by preventable illnesses or treatable injuries, such as diarrhoeal diseases, pneumonia and infectious disease.
